Indian politician Raghav Chadha, who is also the husband of Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra, has come under heavy criticism on social media after reportedly leaving the Aam Aadmi Party and joining the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

According to NDTV, soon after the announcement of his political shift, a large number of social media users began unfollowing him across platforms. Within 24 hours, more than one million users unfollowed his account, reflecting strong public backlash against his decision.

Reports indicate that Raghav Chadha had around 14.2 million followers before the announcement. However, his follower count reportedly dropped to approximately 12.5 million afterward, resulting in a loss of nearly 1.7 million followers in a short period.

The move has sparked widespread debate online, with many users expressing disappointment and anger. Several social media users labelled him “traitor” and “betrayer” following his decision to switch political allegiance.

Reacting to the development, AAP MLA and spokesperson Sanjay Jha said that party workers and supporters had unfollowed Chadha on Instagram as a form of protest. He alleged that Chadha had “betrayed” the party, adding that the public did not support his decision.

It is also being reported that along with Chadha, several other members of parliament have joined BJP, further intensifying political reactions in India’s already heated political landscape.

The controversy has also drawn attention to the increasing influence of social media in shaping political narratives, where public reactions can have immediate and visible consequences for political figures.

As of now, neither Raghav Chadha nor Parineeti Chopra has issued a detailed public response regarding the backlash.
